Spring and Fall in Big Bear
For most locals, the best times of the year are Spring and Fall. These are the times when most of the visitors have returned to their homes off the mountain and Big Bear becomes quiet again. These are also the times where the Seasonal transitions are the most profound with the fresh smell of Pine in the air and Flowers popping up all over the place in preparation for the Summer to the Leaves turning brilliant colors of Red and Gold and slowly drifting to the ground during the Fall.
Schools and Activities for Children
For those who have school aged children, you are in luck! Big Bear High School and Baldwin Lane Elementary School have been awarded "Californias Most Distinguished" Schools. The class sizes in the Bear Valley District are smaller than other schools, allowing each child more attention from the teachers. If your child loves to be involved in sporting activities, the Bear Valley Park and Recreation District hosts many activities such as Youth Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Softball, Bowling and Gymnastics. There is also a Boy/Girls Scouts Club of America along with a terrific Explorer Program for kids considering a career in Law Enforcement or Fire Safety.
Recreation in Big Bear
During the Winter Seasons, the area can see as many as 100,000 extra visitors who have come to the area to enjoy the Snow along with the excellent restaurants and Lodging amenities. For the kids, there are safe areas to enjoy snowman building and sledding.
